Capt. John Coppola

A native of midcoast Maine, Has spent a lifetime, fishing for Striped Bass along the rocky coast and tidal rivers of Maine…He first got started at a very young age on the Kennebec river and over the years he’s become a very experienced & skilled light tackle angler. His specialty is fishing the rips and structure of the Kennebec system with live bait…Chasing and catching the most prime of live baits is what separates John from the rest of the pack… Having a tankful of frisky live baits will insure that you have stellar results even during the dog days of summer!!  A pleasure to be around, Capt. John has a laid-back personality and is a very patient teacher when giving instruction to novice anglers…John has also enjoyed traveling to tropical locations like Costa Rica, The Bahamas and Florida to chase species like Sailfish, Tarpon, Mahi, Cobia, Sharks  and many other species. The Season

Starting in late May, the coast of Maine is invaded by a “thousand-mile long convoy” of ravenous Striped Bass that pour into the numerous coastal rivers and bays to feed on the vast schools of bait fish. June offers nearly non-stop action with “schoolie” Stripers in the 18-30 inch range. By July, large Striped Bass cruise the flats & lie in deep rips attacking any bait that passes by. September – October offers unbelievable action on Striper, and groundfish as acres and acres of fish gorge themselves on Peanut Bunker, Herring, Sandeels, and Atlantic Mackerel; to fatten up as the first cold fronts of autumn send these game fish off on their southerly migration.

Where We Fish

We operate our fishing charters in the Mid-Coast region of Maine, from Casco Bay to Penobscot Bay. This area features an astonishing 1000 miles of jagged, pristine coastline. We focus our efforts on the areas between Sheepscot & Casco Bays including the broad reach of the Kennebec river with its countless thousands of acres of untouched saltwater flats, rips, and backcountry channels, It’s a fly & light tackle fisherman’s nirvana. On any given day we can be found fishing coastal tide marshes, shallow flats, sandy beaches, and islands or ledges located offshore. Wherever the fish are!!!
